Repairing Brick Steps and Porches on Roanoke's Older Homes

Roanoke is filled with older homes that have beautiful brick porches, walkways and front steps. After decades of weather exposure and soil movement, however, those original masonry features can begin to settle, crack or separate.
One of the most common problems we see is settlement beneath brick steps. When the base moves, the masonry above it may begin sagging in the center, opening mortar joints or pulling away from adjoining sections of the porch.
Simply filling the visible cracks may not solve the underlying problem.
A proper masonry repair starts by identifying why the structure moved. Depending on its condition, portions may need to be carefully dismantled, the foundation or supporting base corrected, and the brick rebuilt to restore proper elevation and alignment.
Older homes deserve repairs that complement their original architecture. Roanoke Masonry works with brick, natural stone, slate, concrete, granite and other masonry materials, allowing us to create repairs and renovations that look appropriate for the house instead of appearing like an obvious patch.
We can also redesign worn front entrances using wider steps, natural stone, masonry borders, lighting and new walkway configurations to improve both function and curb appeal.
Whether the project involves a small mortar repair or a complete porch and step reconstruction, good masonry work should look like it belongs there.
