Old Brick Steps Should Look Like They Belong to the House

One of the biggest mistakes in repairing an older Roanoke home is making the repair look obviously new.

Brick steps are a perfect example.

A failing set of steps may need extensive structural work, but the finished project should still complement the architecture, brick color, mortar appearance, and age of the home.

At Roanoke Masonry, we approach older brick stairs as both a structural and visual project.

Settled steps may have cracked mortar joints, separated sidewalls, loose brick, deteriorated foundations, uneven risers, or treads that are simply too shallow for comfortable use.

Depending on the condition, we can rebuild the damaged area while improving the proportions of the new steps.

That can include deeper treads, wider landings, new brick borders, natural stone or bluestone treads, masonry sidewalls, and other details that dramatically improve curb appeal.

The goal isn't simply to make the steps solid again.

It's to make the repair look like it should have always been there.

Roanoke has countless older homes with incredible brick and stone craftsmanship. When those features need repair, the new masonry should respect the character of the original home.
